Our Lifeline Clinic sees over 3,000 patients a year, 40% of these being children and babies. We rely completely on donations and volunteer work to keep our clinic open and we are very happy to say that we have been able to help people for over 8 years in Epukiro now.
Donations to keep us alive!
In the last few months we have received a number of very generous donations to keep our clinic going:
We have received our new microscope that was generously donated by De Helpende Hand of SABIC Innovative Plastics. We can now use this to diagnose intestinal worms in the San children. Intestinal worms are responsible for causing poor growth and poor brain development in children so it is really important to detect children that are affected so they can receive the appropriate treatment.
Burgland Charitas, one of our most long lasting and loyal supporters, has kindly donated enough funds to cover all the medicines for our clinic for one year. This is a fantastic help as it ensures that we will be able to maintain the clinic open for all our patients at least for another year.
Finally, the recent Ina Paarman Spring Brunch organized at the N/a’an ku sĂȘ Lodge only a week ago was a fantastic success. We were able to raise N$25,000 which will cover the expenses for our ambulance for an entire year! Read more about this under the Lodge section in this newsletter.
Community project for Bushman village
Tim Thornton, a former volunteer at the clinic, has come back and is currently working on a community project to establish a health care worker program in some of the local villages. The aim is to improve local knowledge about common diseases, help detect cases of TB, identify any children who are malnourished and imporove first aid management of burns.
Come and volunteer at the clinic
We are currently looking for medical volunteers to come and visit our clinic and help us make a difference. Volunteer programmes run from 2 weeks to 3 months and provide hands on experience to anybody who aspires to a career in medicine (or already has experience!). Visit our website for more information and please send your enquiries to volunteer@naankuse.com.
